Currently we are doing evening and weekend classes. Four sessions over the course of a month. Each session is two hours long and there is one session per week for four weeks.
We are currently doing our registration through https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdxneY2x412onVIzdzQp1hNTxvm_pNwcALLAf1Keb5s3Q25qg/viewform?usp=sharing
Beginning students are guided to make an assigned project to break the ice and begin to learn to use tools like saws and chisels. Then over the rest of the course students work on a simple project of their own.
Students learn about how to get the most out of wood as a material and gain a basic foundation of woodworking skills. We use simple inexpensive tools available to anyone.
Our goal is to teach people to work on their own in our studio. As people advance in their skills, they start to focus on various aspects of woodworking. Some want to learn to make boxes or turn things on the lathe, some want to carve or do home remodeling repairs. We even have a few students who do metal working!
We work with advancing students to best facilitate their exploration of the craft which is always built on a foundation of chisel and saw skills.
We like to say kids 8 to 80 but the age restriction is primarily do to size and mass. Kids 8 and under start to be too small to reach even our shortest workbench and even more important don't have the strength and mass to pull the saws or push the hand planes. This is real woodworking, not infotainment but I have had kids as young as 6 so feel free to reach out to us and have a conversation.
We teach real world skills using commonly available and inexpensive tools. Our style of woodworking harkens back to the days of pioneers using human scale tools powered by ...humans.
The objects on the left were made by youth students some as young as nine. Even the woodworking finishes are handmade of beeswax and mineral oil and are completely kid safe.
We use vintage tools, some as old as Benjamin Franklin although most are from the early 1900s. We even make some of our own tools!
Much of the wood we use is either repurposed, salvaged or the most fun, wood we actually harvest from urban trees. We have avocado, grapefruit, sycamore, apple, camphor, elm, walnut, cork oak, and more that we harvest after windstorms or that is donated to us.
At Woodshop Squared, we believe that woodworking is more than just a hobby, it's an art form. That's why we offer a wide range of woodworking supplies and tools to help you bring your creative vision to life. Browse our collection now and see what you can create!
